Preferred Applications

The DSDPA.90 is a compact acoustic profiler for wind and turbulence measurements in medium altitudes within the planetary boundary layer. It is designed especially for mobile applications where quick set up and easy handling are mandatory.

One vertical and 4 tilted beams can be generated. The tilted beams point into 4orthogonal directions parallel to the edges of the quadratic array.

The set up of the system is quick and easy, because the last operation mode is saved automatically. In addition, up to 60 additional operation modes can be stored and invoked under user defined names.

The right picture (above) shows the mobile DSDPA.90 system configured for the DWD (Deutscher Wetterdienst). It includes various options for stand-alone and remote controlled operation under different site conditions. (Operation by power generator or batteries, control via mobile phone, antenna heating against icing etc.).

The signal generation, beam switching and signal analysis (including the estimation of wind speed, wind direction and second moment of the vertical wind component) is done by a reliable VME-Bus based computer under a real time operating system (pSOS+). The signal processing includes also an objective control of data quality which evaluates acceptance levels of various signal features in the time and frequency domain (e.g. signal to noise ratio).
